Overview

EPN-801 is a small molecule therapeutic candidate being developed by Epizon Pharma for the treatment of vascular calcification. The drug's mechanism of action involves the modulation of the vitamin K redox cycle, a biological pathway essential for the carboxylation and activation of vitamin K-dependent proteins, such as Matrix Gla Protein (MGP), which serve as potent inhibitors of vascular mineralization. By targeting this cycle, EPN-801 aims to prevent or reduce the pathological deposition of calcium in the arterial walls, a condition frequently observed in patients with chronic kidney disease and advanced cardiovascular disease. EPN-801 is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
