Overview

**EPO-CTP** is a long-acting recombinant erythropoietin fusion protein developed by **Hematology/Oncology** (a subsidiary of **OPKO Health**) in which erythropoietin (EPO) is fused to the **CTP** (C-terminal peptide) sequence derived from human chorionic gonadotropin beta subunit to extend its half-life. It functions as an **erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA)** by binding to and activating the **erythropoietin receptor (EPOR)** on erythroid progenitor cells, promoting their proliferation, differentiation, and survival to increase red blood cell production and treat anemia. Primarily investigated for **anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD)**, it allows for less frequent dosing (e.g., once monthly subcutaneous) compared to standard epoetin alfa.
