Overview

Epodion is a branded recombinant human erythropoietin alfa (epoetin alfa) formulation developed as an erythropoiesis‑stimulating agent to treat anemia associated with chronic kidney disease in patients undergoing hemodialysis. It is a sterile, clear, colorless solution for intravenous or subcutaneous injection containing epoetin alfa, a glycoprotein hormone that binds erythropoietin receptors on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow to stimulate proliferation and differentiation of red blood cell precursors, thereby increasing hemoglobin levels and reducing the need for red blood cell transfusions.[4][8] Clinical studies have evaluated Epodion versus reference epoetin alfa (e.g., Eprex) in dialysis patients with renal anemia using thrice‑weekly dosing regimens, aiming to maintain hemoglobin in the 10–12 g/dL range while demonstrating therapeutic equivalence in efficacy and safety.[4]
