Epoetin beta is a synthetic, recombinant form of human erythropoietin, a glycoprotein hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells by acting on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow. It is produced using Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells and has an identical amino acid sequence to endogenous human erythropoietin. Epoetin beta is classified as an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) and is primarily used to treat anemia associated with chronic kidney failure and cancer chemotherapy. It increases red blood cell production by binding to the erythropoietin receptor on target cells, thereby promoting differentiation and proliferation of these precursors into mature red blood cells[5].
