Overview

Epoetin delta is a recombinant human erythropoietin produced in human cell lines (HT-1080) using gene-activation technology. It is a glycoprotein that stimulates erythropoiesis by acting as a mitosis-stimulating factor and differentiation hormone, promoting the formation of red blood cells from precursor stem cells in the bone marrow. Epoetin delta was developed for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD), both in patients on dialysis and those not on dialysis. The drug was marketed under the brand name Dynepo but has since been withdrawn from the European market. Clinical studies demonstrated its efficacy in increasing hemoglobin levels in CKD patients with anemia[1][4][5]. Epoetin delta may also reduce oxidative stress in renal tubular epithelial cells[6].
