Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EPON is a brand of pharmaceutical products developed and marketed by Thrift Pharmaceuticals. It is available in multiple oral formulations, including tablets containing cyproheptadine, capsules combining cyproheptadine with dried yeast, and a syrup formulation containing cyproheptadine hydrochloride, tricholine citrate, and sorbitol. Cyproheptadine is a first-generation antihistamine with antiserotonergic and anticholinergic properties. It acts as an antagonist at histamine H1, serotonin (5-HT2A, 5-HT2B, 5-HT2C), and muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. By blocking H1 receptors, it alleviates allergic symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rhinitis. Its antiserotonergic activity on the appetite center of the hypothalamus stimulates appetite, making it useful for treating anorexia and promoting weight gain. Tricholine citrate acts as a lipotropic agent and bile acid-binding agent, helping to mobilize fat from the liver and support hepatic function. Sorbitol serves as an osmotic laxative to ease constipation and as a pharmaceutical vehicle. Dried yeast provides essential B-complex vitamins to support nutritional recovery.
