EpoR siRNA-DOPC is a preclinical small interfering RNA (siRNA) formulation encapsulated in 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC) nanoliposomes. It is designed to target and silence the expression of the erythropoietin receptor (EpoR). Developed as a research tool by researchers at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, the University of Puerto Rico, and LIFE Biosystems, it has been utilized in preclinical models of ovarian and breast cancer to investigate the mechanisms of erythropoietin (Epo)-mediated tumor progression. In in vivo studies, EpoR siRNA-DOPC did not inhibit recombinant human Epo (rhEpo)-stimulated tumor growth, which led to the discovery of EphB4 as the alternative receptor mediating Epo-induced tumor progression.
