Overview

Eprozinol is a small molecule drug classified as a benzyl ether and used for the treatment of obstructive airway diseases such as asthma and bronchitis. Its primary mechanism of action is the inhibition of bronchoconstriction through antagonism at histamine H1 receptor. Eprozinol also exhibits noncompetitive antagonism against serotonin, bradykinin, and acetylcholine. It has weak phosphodiesterase inhibitory activity only at high concentrations and does not significantly affect cAMP or cGMP levels in tracheal tissue. The anti-bronchoconstrictor effects are independent of the adrenergic system, with no interference from beta-blockers like propranolol or additive effects with adrenergic agents such as isoprenaline. Eprozinol has been investigated up to phase II clinical trials for respiratory indications[3][4][6][8].
