Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EPS-1020 (also known as 1020 EPS) is a probiotic-derived exopolysaccharide (EPS) obtained from the *Lactiplantibacillus plantarum* strain LB 1020 [1]. Developed by LuxBiome and Chung-Ang University, EPS-1020 is being investigated as a potential antiviral agent for the prevention and treatment of rotavirus infections [1]. In preclinical studies, EPS-1020 demonstrated broad-spectrum virucidal activity *in vitro* against multiple human, porcine, and bovine rotavirus strains [1]. In neonatal mouse models, oral administration of EPS-1020 alleviated rotavirus-induced symptoms such as diarrhea, reduced viral shedding, and protected against histological damage in the small intestine [1].
