Overview

Epsolay is a topical cream containing 5% benzoyl peroxide encapsulated within silica-based microcapsules. Developed by Sol-Gel Technologies using its proprietary microencapsulation platform, the drug is designed to provide a controlled release of benzoyl peroxide to the skin. This delivery mechanism aims to maintain the drug's potent antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory efficacy while significantly reducing the skin irritation typically associated with high-concentration benzoyl peroxide. Epsolay was approved by the FDA in April 2022 for the treatment of inflammatory lesions of rosacea in adults and is commercialized in the United States by Galderma.
