eptacog alfa + vitamin K

rFVIIa + vitamin K is an investigational combination hemostatic regimen consisting of recombinant activated factor VII (eptacog alfa) and vitamin K. Developed by the University of Perugia, this combination is being evaluated for the treatment of acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in patients who are on oral anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents. The primary goal of the therapy is to prevent early hematoma growth and reduce mortality and neurological deterioration. Eptacog alfa (NovoSeven) works by binding to tissue factor at the site of hemorrhage, thereby enhancing thrombin generation and platelet activation to arrest bleeding. Vitamin K is included to reverse anticoagulant-induced coagulopathy by promoting the hepatic synthesis of clotting factors II, VII, IX, and X. This regimen represents an investigational use of NovoSeven in the context of antithrombotic-associated ICH.
