Overview

Eptapirone (Chinese name: 埃普奈明) refers to two distinct drugs in different regions. Internationally, eptapirone (F-11440) is a potent and highly selective full agonist of the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor from the azapirone family, developed for potential antidepressant and anxiolytic effects but discontinued after phase I trials[1][2][4]. In China, "埃普奈明" (APONERMIN; brand name 沙艾特) is a recombinant circularly permuted human TRAIL protein that acts as an agonist of death receptor 4 (DR4) and death receptor 5 (DR5), inducing apoptosis in tumor cells via the extrinsic pathway. It is approved in China for use with thalidomide and dexamethasone to treat relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma after at least two prior systemic therapies[6][8][10]. This Chinese drug is considered first-in-class globally as a DR4/DR5 agonist biologic.
