Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Equa is an oral small‑molecule antidiabetic drug containing vildagliptin, a selective dipeptidyl peptidase‑4 (DPP‑4) inhibitor indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus as monotherapy or in combination with other oral hypoglycemics or insulin. By inhibiting DPP‑4, it increases endogenous active incretin hormones such as GLP‑1, which in turn enhance glucose‑dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppress glucagon secretion from alpha cells, improving glycemic control with a low intrinsic risk of hypoglycemia.[1][3][9] The product was developed and launched in Japan by Novartis Pharma K.K. and is co‑promoted and distributed there in collaboration with Sumitomo Pharma.[1][3][10]
