Overview

**Equilis Prequenza** is a veterinary vaccine authorized in the European Union for the active immunization of horses from 6 months of age against equine influenza. It contains inactivated strains of equine influenza virus, specifically A/equine-2/South Africa/4/03 (50 AU) and A/equine-2/Newmarket/2/93 (50 AU), adjuvanted with Iscom-Matrix (purified saponin 375 µg, cholesterol 125 µg, phosphatidylcholine 62.5 µg) to enhance immune response. Administered intramuscularly, it reduces clinical signs and virus excretion post-infection, with onset of immunity 2 weeks after the primary course (two doses 4 weeks apart), duration of 5 months post-primary, and 1 year after first revaccination; boosters are recommended every 12 months. Developed and marketed by MSD Animal Health, it is suitable for use in pregnant and lactating mares, with rare adverse events including injection site reactions, fever, and hypersensitivity.[1][2][8][9][11]
