Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Equine Encephalitis vaccine is a trivalent vaccine candidate designed to provide protection against Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus (EEEV), Western Equine Encephalitis Virus (WEEV), and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus (VEEV). Developed using the VesiculoVax platform—a recombinant Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (rVSV) vector technology—the vaccine was originally created by Profectus BioSciences and subsequently licensed by Emergent BioSolutions. These alphaviruses are significant public health threats and are classified as high-priority biodefense targets due to their potential for aerosol transmission and the severity of the neurological disease they cause in humans. The vaccine utilizes an attenuated rVSV vector to express the envelope glycoproteins of the three target viruses, eliciting a robust immune response including neutralizing antibodies.
