Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Equine rabies immunoglobulin is used for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) against rabies. It is derived from the plasma of horses immunized with rabies vaccine and is administered to neutralize the rabies virus at the wound site. It provides temporary passive immunity until the body can produce its own antibodies. ERIG is often used in developing countries due to its lower cost compared to human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG).
