Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EquineVet Acemannan Smart Gel is a veterinary hydrogel wound care product developed by Carrington Laboratories. The active ingredient is acemannan, a polymeric acetylated mannan derived from the *Aloe barbadensis* Miller (Aloe vera) plant. It is specifically formulated for the management of wounds in horses, dogs, cats, and other companion animals. The gel functions as a biologic modality that assists in wound healing by maintaining an optimal moist environment and modulating the immune response. Acemannan acts on immune cells, such as macrophages, to trigger the release of pro-healing cytokines including Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF), Interleukin-1 (IL-1), and Interleukin-6 (IL-6), while also enhancing the activity of natural killer cells and cytotoxic T-cells to facilitate the repair process across all phases of wound healing.
