Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EquineVet Acemannan Wound Cleanser is a veterinary topical wound care product developed by Carrington Laboratories. Its active ingredient is acemannan, a complex polymeric acetylated mannan derived from the *Aloe barbadensis Miller* (aloe vera) plant. The product is specifically formulated for use in horses, dogs, cats, and other companion animals to facilitate wound healing. It functions by mechanically removing organic material, debris, and necrotic tissue from the wound site using an optimized spray pressure of approximately 12 P.S.I. Beyond mechanical cleansing, the acemannan component acts as an immunomodulator, stimulating immune cells to release essential cytokines such as Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF), Interleukin-1 (IL-1), and Interleukin-6 (IL-6). This biological activity helps regulate the wound environment and is particularly useful in managing extremity wounds in horses, where it helps prevent the formation of hyper-granulation tissue, commonly known as proud flesh.
