Overview
Er Chen Tang + Chang Pu Yu Jin Tang is a combination of two classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulas widely utilized in East Asian medicine to treat neuropsychiatric and respiratory conditions. **Er Chen Tang** consists primarily of *Pinellia ternata*, *Citrus reticulata*, *Poria cocos*, and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis*; it is classically indicated for "drying dampness and resolving phlegm." **Chang Pu Yu Jin Tang** features *Acorus tatarinowii* and *Curcuma aromatica* as its chief ingredients, designed to "clear heat, resolve phlegm, and open the orifices." When combined, these formulas are frequently investigated for their efficacy in pediatric neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Tourette Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), where the underlying TCM pathology is identified as phlegm-heat obstructing the sensory orifices. Biologically, the combination is thought to modulate the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems, exert neuroprotective effects via the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and regulate the GABAergic system through active compounds like alpha-asarone and curcuminoids.
