Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Erbiqing is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) granule formulation developed by the Anhui Institute of Pharmaceutical Research for the treatment of acute secretory otitis media (ASOM). The preparation is composed of several herbal ingredients, including *Scutellaria baicalensis* and *Bupleurum chinense*, which are traditionally used to clear heat and resolve dampness. In the context of secretory otitis media, Erbiqing is intended to reduce inflammation and edema in the Eustachian tube and middle ear mucosa, thereby promoting the absorption and drainage of middle ear effusion. Clinical studies have indicated that Erbiqing can lower the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 in the middle ear effusion, which are key mediators in the pathogenesis of ASOM. It is primarily used in the Chinese clinical setting as an alternative or adjunct to conventional therapies.
