Drug intelligence / Profile preview
erbium (169Er) citrate colloid (ERMM-1) is a therapeutic radiopharmaceutical containing the beta-emitting radionuclide erbium-169, developed by CIS bio international (now part of Curium). It is indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid mono- or oligo-arthritis affecting the small joints of the hands and feet (radiation synovectomy/synoviorthesis) following the failure of intra-articular corticosteroid therapy. Administered via local intra-articular injection, the colloidal particles are phagocytised by synovial cells, delivering localized beta radiation with a maximum tissue range of approximately 1.0 mm. This targeted radiation induces coagulation necrosis of the inflamed synovial membrane, leading to the resolution of joint inflammation while minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.
