Overview

Erenumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody used for the prevention of migraine in adults. It works by selectively binding to and antagonizing the calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor (CGRP receptor), thereby blocking the action of CGRP, a neuropeptide involved in migraine pathophysiology. Erenumab is administered as a once-monthly subcutaneous injection and was developed as the first FDA-approved treatment specifically targeting the CGRP pathway for migraine prevention. The drug was developed by Amgen in collaboration with Novartis and is marketed under the brand name Aimovig[2][4][5][6].
