ergoloid mesylates

**Ergoloid mesylates** is a prescription ergot-alkaloid mixture comprising the methanesulfonate salts of dihydroergocornine, dihydroergocristine, and dihydroergocryptine, the latter containing alpha and beta isomers. It has historically been used for symptomatic idiopathic age-associated decline in mental capacity, although its labeled clinical pharmacology states that a specific mechanism for its mental effects has not been established. The mixture has reported alpha-adrenergic blocking activity and interactions with dopaminergic and serotonergic systems, but these actions do not establish a validated disease-specific mechanism. It was originally developed by Sandoz and has also been studied in a Phase 2 Fragile X syndrome trial and in a clinical study for Parkinson disease-associated sialorrhea.
