Eris Biotech is developing a first-in-class, orally administered small-molecule inhibitor designed to combat cancer by blocking tumor immune evasion. The drug specifically targets a non-protein pathway responsible for the formation and release of immune-suppressing extracellular vesicles (EVs), also known as exosomes. By preventing tumors from secreting these vesicles—which typically carry immunosuppressive signals that allow cancer to hide from the immune system—the therapy 'reawakens' the body's natural defenses to recognize and attack the tumor. This approach is intended to be non-toxic to healthy cells compared to traditional chemotherapy, as it does not directly kill cells but instead enables endogenous immune responses. The company's initial focus is on solid tumors, with a primary development program in mesothelioma.
