ERK5 siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase 5 (ERK5), a member of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family encoded by the MAPK7 gene. ERK5 plays a critical role in regulating cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, survival, and apoptosis. In preclinical research, ERK5 siRNA is frequently employed to study the kinase's involvement in oncogenesis, where it has been shown to modulate pathways like Slug/MMP-9 in osteosarcoma and enhance sensitivity to cytarabine in acute myeloid leukemia. It is also used to investigate metabolic and vascular conditions, including diabetic retinopathy and cardiomyocyte injury. Currently, ERK5 siRNA is primarily utilized as a research tool and laboratory reagent rather than a clinical-stage therapeutic candidate.
