ertugliflozin

Ertugliflozin is an oral small molecule drug used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It belongs to the class of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. Ertugliflozin works by inhibiting SGLT2 in the kidneys, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood sugar levels. It is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. The drug was first approved by the FDA in December 2017 and is also available in combination products with metformin (Segluromet) and sitagliptin (Steglujan). Common side effects include genital mycotic infections, increased urination, thirst, hypoglycemia (especially when used with insulin or sulfonylureas), and weight loss[1][2][3][4][5][6][8].
