ertugliflozin + metformin

Segluromet is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) medication containing ertugliflozin and metformin hydrochloride. Developed through a collaboration between Merck and Pfizer, it was approved by the FDA in December 2017 for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. Ertugliflozin is a selective sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by blocking its reabsorption in the proximal tubule of the kidney, leading to urinary glucose excretion. Metformin, a biguanide, works by decreasing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. The combination is intended as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients who are not adequately controlled on ertugliflozin or metformin alone.
