Overview
Erwu Hefang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed and utilized by the Provincial Hospital of Shandong First Medical University for the treatment of diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) and premature ovarian insufficiency. The formula is a specific combination of two classic TCM prescriptions: Erxian Decoction (二仙汤) and Wuzi Yanzong Pill (五子衍宗丸). It is designed to tonify the kidneys, nourish the essence, and regulate the Chong and Ren meridians. Research indicates that Erwu Hefang exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, reducing oxidative stress in ovarian tissues, and inhibiting the apoptosis of granulosa cells. These effects are primarily mediated through the activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, which promotes cell survival and improves the ovarian microenvironment, thereby enhancing oocyte quality and ovarian response in clinical settings.
