Overview
Erxian Peiyuan decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Jilin Cancer Hospital, specifically designed to manage immunotherapy-related hypothyroidism (irHypothyroidism) in patients with malignant tumors. The decoction is a modification of the classic 'Erxian Decoction,' incorporating additional herbs intended to 'cultivate the origin' (Peiyuan) and strengthen the body's foundation. It is primarily used as a supportive therapy for patients undergoing treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitors, who develop thyroid dysfunction as an immune-related adverse event. The formula aims to tonify the kidneys, warm the yang, and regulate the immune system, thereby restoring thyroid hormone balance (reducing TSH and increasing FT4 levels) and improving clinical symptoms like fatigue and cold intolerance.
