STATegics' erythropoietin (EPO) allomimetics are a series of small molecule positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) designed to selectively target the tissue-protective erythropoietin receptor (tpEPOR). The tpEPOR is a heterocomplex composed of the erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) and the cytokine receptor common subunit beta (CD131). While native EPO and its recombinant analogs activate the homodimeric EPOR to stimulate erythropoiesis, STATegics' compounds are designed to selectively trigger tissue-protective signaling pathways without increasing red blood cell production. This mechanism is intended to provide neuroprotection and cytoprotection in various conditions, including Friedreich's Ataxia and Parkinson's disease, while avoiding the cardiovascular risks associated with elevated hematocrit. The program is currently in preclinical development.
