Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Erzhi pill, also known as Erzhi Wan, is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula composed of two primary herbal ingredients: *Ligustrum lucidum* (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi) and *Eclipta prostrata* (Herba Ecliptae). Traditionally used to nourish kidney yin and strengthen the skeletal system, it is currently being investigated for its therapeutic potential in treating menopausal osteoporosis. The formula is believed to exert its effects by acting as a natural phytoestrogen, modulating the estrogen receptor, and regulating the OPG/RANKL signaling pathway to balance bone resorption and formation. Clinical research, such as studies conducted by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of TCM, has compared Erzhi pill to standard calcium supplements like Caltrate to evaluate its efficacy in improving bone mineral density and safety in postmenopausal women.
