Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Erzhiwan Jiawei is an investigational traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation, administered as oral granules. It is a modified version of the classic TCM formula "Erzhiwan" (二至丸), which contains the herbs *Ligustrum lucidum* (Nu Zhen Zi) and *Eclipta prostrata* (Han Lian Cao). [4] The term "Jiawei" signifies that additional ingredients have been added to the base formula to tailor it for specific conditions. [13] In the context of a registered clinical trial (ChiCTR2400084133), this particular formulation is being studied for the treatment of early and middle-stage knee osteoarthritis, specifically for patients identified with a TCM diagnosis of "kidney deficiency and blood stasis". The trial is sponsored by the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Other research has explored different "Jiawei" versions of Erzhiwan for conditions like androgenetic alopecia and osteoporosis. [5, 9]
