Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EscharEx-02 (also known as EX-02) is a topical, bromelain-based enzymatic debridement formulation developed by MediWound. It consists of a concentrate of proteolytic enzymes enriched in bromelain (anacaulase-bcdb) extracted from the stems of pineapple plants (*Ananas comosus*). EscharEx-02 is designed to selectively remove non-viable, necrotic tissue, eschar, and slough from wounds without damaging surrounding healthy tissue, while also disrupting bacterial biofilms and promoting granulation. In addition to its primary development for the debridement of chronic wounds such as venous leg ulcers (VLU) and diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), EscharEx-02 is being evaluated in clinical trials for the non-invasive removal of precancerous and cancerous non-melanoma skin lesions, including actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma (BCC), and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC).
