Overview

A combination of escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), and gaboxadol, a selective extrasynaptic GABA receptor agonist. This combination was investigated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). Escitalopram works by inhibiting serotonin reuptake in the presynaptic neuron, while gaboxadol acts as a direct and selective agonist of extrasynaptic GABAA receptors, particularly those containing the delta subunit.
