Overview

This is a combination of escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant, and Gui Fu Di Huang Wan, a traditional Chinese medicine herbal formula. Escitalopram acts by selectively inhibiting the serotonin transporter (SERT), increasing synaptic serotonin levels in the brain and is primarily used for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder[5][7]. Gui Fu Di Huang Wan is an herbal blend traditionally used to reinforce kidney yang in Chinese medicine; it contains ingredients such as Cinnamomum aromaticum (Rou gui), Aconitum carmichaeli (Fuzi), Rehmannia glutinosa, Cornus officinalis, Paeonia suffruticosa, Dioscorea opposita, Poria cocos, and Alisma plantago-aquatica[6][2][9]. It has been studied for immunoregulatory effects and may ameliorate symptoms related to kidney yang deficiency syndromes such as chronic bronchitis or COPD by modulating inflammatory pathways including ERK-SP1 signaling[8]. There are no established pharmaceutical products combining these two agents; this combination would be considered experimental or complementary.
