Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant, and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), commonly found in fish oil supplements. Escitalopram acts by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the brain, thereby increasing its availability and improving mood. Omega-3 PUFAs—primarily eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)—are thought to exert neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects that may enhance antidepressant efficacy. Clinical studies suggest that combining these agents can result in greater improvement of depressive symptoms compared to either agent alone[1][3][4]. This combination is being explored primarily for the treatment of depression.
