Overview

Escorten is a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) developed and launched by Daewon Pharmaceutical, containing 10mg of esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate as its active ingredient. It is distinguished as the first PPI to be specifically indicated for the improvement of gastric mucosal lesions in patients with acute and chronic gastritis. The drug works by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) in parietal cells, thereby reducing stomach acid production. Its clinical efficacy was established through large-scale Phase 3 trials in South Korea involving 27 general hospitals, demonstrating its effectiveness in treating gastritis at a lower dose than typically used for gastroesophageal reflux disease.
