Overview
ESODOC is an injectable formulation of esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) developed and marketed by Docventures Pharmaceuticals in India. As the S-isomer of omeprazole, esomeprazole works by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing the final step of gastric acid secretion. This injectable form is primarily indicated for the short-term treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with erosive esophagitis in patients who are unable to take oral medication, as well as for the treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and the prevention of gastric ulcers associated with continuous NSAID therapy.
