Overview

AD-207 (marketed as Esopid) is a fixed-dose combination drug developed by Addpharma, consisting of the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) esomeprazole and the antacid sodium bicarbonate. Classified as an "incrementally modified drug" (IMD) in South Korea, it is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal conditions such as erosive esophagitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The formulation utilizes sodium bicarbonate to neutralize gastric acid, which serves a dual purpose: it protects the acid-labile esomeprazole from degradation in the stomach and triggers the rapid activation of proton pumps, leading to a faster onset of acid suppression compared to conventional delayed-release PPI formulations. This immediate-release profile also allows for more flexible dosing relative to food intake. The drug was licensed to Yuhan Corporation for commercialization in the South Korean market.
