Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Esomeprazole Benta is a branded generic formulation of esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) developed and marketed by Benta Lyon. As the S-enantiomer of omeprazole, esomeprazole provides potent and long-lasting reduction of gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells. It is approved for the treatment of various acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, peptic and duodenal ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also used in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of *Helicobacter pylori*. The drug is typically administered orally in a delayed-release formulation to ensure stability in the acidic environment of the stomach.
