Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Esomezol Cap is an oral delayed-release capsule formulation of esomeprazole strontium, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical. It is an incrementally modified drug (IMD) of AstraZeneca's Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium). Esomeprazole strontium works by covalently binding to and irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion. It is approved for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), healing of erosive esophagitis, risk reduction of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers, Helicobacter pylori eradication, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
