Esoxx

Esoxx (also marketed as Esoxx One) is a Class III medical device developed by Alfasigma for the topical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms. It is a fixed-dose combination of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate, formulated in a bioadhesive carrier, poloxamer 407. Unlike traditional pharmacological agents such as proton pump inhibitors or antacids, Esoxx operates through a mechanical mechanism of action. Upon ingestion, it forms a protective macromolecular complex that adheres to the esophageal mucosa, creating a physical barrier that shields the tissue from the noxious components of gastric refluxate, including acid and pepsin. It is indicated for the relief of heartburn, acid regurgitation, epigastric pain, irritative cough, and dysphonia. Additionally, it has been investigated for the management of radiation-induced esophagitis.
