Overview
Essex cream is a non-perfumed, paraben-free aqueous emollient cream used to hydrate the skin and maintain the epidermal barrier. It is commonly employed in clinical practice as a moisturizing agent and as a standard-of-care treatment for managing acute radiation skin reactions (ARSR) in patients receiving radiotherapy for conditions such as breast cancer. By providing a protective layer and increasing the water content of the stratum corneum, it helps alleviate symptoms of radiation-induced dermatitis, including dryness, itching, and erythema. It was originally developed and marketed by Schering-Plough (now part of Merck & Co.).
