Estratest H.S. is a combination oral hormone replacement therapy consisting of esterified estrogens (0.625 mg) and the synthetic androgen methyltestosterone (1.25 mg). It was primarily indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms, such as hot flashes and night sweats, associated with menopause in women who did not achieve adequate relief from estrogen therapy alone. The esterified estrogens component works by binding to and activating estrogen receptors, compensating for the decline in endogenous estrogen levels during menopause. Methyltestosterone acts as an androgen receptor agonist; while its specific contribution to vasomotor symptom relief is less clearly defined, it was included to potentially enhance the therapeutic effect and address associated symptoms like decreased libido.
