Overview
Estradiol is an estrogenic steroid hormone that is used to treat various conditions related to estrogen deficiency. It works by replacing or supplementing the body's natural estrogen, which helps relieve menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. It is also used to prevent osteoporosis after menopause, treat hypoestrogenism, and in some cases, treat certain types of breast cancer and advanced androgen-dependent prostate cancer. Estradiol is available in multiple formulations including oral tablets, transdermal patches, gels, sprays, vaginal creams, vaginal tablets, vaginal rings, and injections.
