Estradiol + megestrol acetate is a **combined injectable contraceptive** used primarily in China under the names Chinese injectable No. 2 and Mego-E. Each injection contains 3.5 mg of estradiol (an estrogen) and 25 mg of megestrol acetate (a progestin, formulated as a microcrystalline aqueous suspension. It is administered by intramuscular injection once per month. This combination works by suppressing ovulation and modifying the endometrium, thus providing effective hormonal birth control. Developed and marketed in China, the product was widely distributed between 1980 and 2005–2008 but is now discontinued.
