Drug intelligence / Profile preview
1 mg estradiol / 0.5 mg norethindrone acetate is a continuous combined oral estrogen/progestin hormonal combination therapy. It contains estradiol, a bioidentical estrogen, and norethindrone acetate, a synthetic progestin. This combination is widely approved and marketed as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in postmenopausal women with an intact uterus to treat moderate-to-severe vasomotor symptoms (such as hot flashes), vulvar and vaginal atrophy, and to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis. Additionally, in the context of AbbVie's uterine fibroid program, this specific strength of E2/NETA is co-administered as an add-back therapy with elagolix (marketed under the brand name Oriahnn) to mitigate hypoestrogenic side effects, such as bone mineral density loss and hot flushes, in premenopausal women undergoing treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding associated with uterine fibroids.
