Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Estring is a vaginal ring delivery system for estradiol, a naturally occurring human estrogen. It is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of vulvar and vaginal atrophy associated with menopause, such as vaginal dryness, burning, and dyspareunia. The ring is designed to release a low dose of estradiol (approximately 7.5 micrograms per 24 hours) consistently over a 90-day period. Estradiol works by binding to and activating estrogen receptors in the vaginal tissues, promoting the restoration of the vaginal epithelium, increasing secretions, and maintaining a healthy vaginal pH. This localized delivery minimizes systemic absorption compared to oral estrogen therapy, reducing the risk of systemic side effects while effectively managing local urogenital symptoms.
