Estrogen vaginal cream

Estrogen vaginal cream, specifically in the forms of Premarin (conjugated estrogens) or Estrace (estradiol), is a topical hormonal therapy used to treat symptoms of vulvovaginal atrophy and atrophic vaginitis in postmenopausal women. In a Phase 4 clinical trial (NCT03943823) conducted by The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston, it is being evaluated for its efficacy in reducing vaginal pH, vaginal discharge, and the incidence of bacterial vaginosis in postmenopausal women who use ring with support pessaries. The treatment works by stimulating the maturation of the vaginal epithelium and increasing glycogen levels, which facilitates the growth of Lactobacillus species and the maintenance of an acidic vaginal environment.
