Overview
ET-22 live probiotic is a live biotherapeutic product containing the specific bacterial strain *Lactiplantibacillus plantarum* ET-22 (formerly *Lactobacillus plantarum* ET-22). Developed by researchers at China Agricultural University, it is primarily investigated for the management of chronic periodontitis. The therapy is delivered as a live probiotic milk tablet intended to be used alongside standard initial periodontal therapy. Its mechanism of action involves the competitive exclusion of periodontal pathogens, such as *Porphyromonas gingivalis*, and the modulation of the oral microbial environment to reduce inflammation and promote periodontal health. Clinical studies evaluate its efficacy in improving periodontal clinical parameters and reducing oral pathogenic bacteria compared to heat-killed formulations and other probiotic combinations.
